Hebrews 12 assignment

Read Hebrews 12
2) Each person in your group should type a 3 paragraph summary (5-7 sentences each) about this chapter to your blog. What stuck out to you? Which scriptures encouraged you? (give me the reference, ex: Hebrews 12:15) How? Which scripture stuck out to you the most? Why?
3) Post each of your 3 paragraph summaries to your blog

Rebecca- in vs.2 i love this verse because it always reminds me to keep on focusing on God. Vs. 3 stuck out to me because it reminds me of what Jesus has done for me and it makes me love him even more. He endured so much pain and suffering because he loves us and he wants us to never give up. In vs. 6 it says that God disciplines the ones that he loves. It always makes me feel bad when i get punished or in trouble. i always try to remember this verse and it always makes me feel better to know that God still loves me.
In vs. 7 it says to endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. This always makes me feel better. It tells me that I am God's child no matter what. He loves me and that will never change. It says that if we are not disciplined then we are not his children. So i will always remember when i am being corrected that it means that i am God's child.
In vs. 14 it says to make every effort to live in peace with all men. This is a very important verse to remember. Because I need to strive for this. I need to remember this when i am mad at someone. To try not to be mad but act peacefully.

Kayla- Verse 14: "Try to live in peace with everyone, and seek to live a clean and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord." Since we're girls we deal with jealousy alot. It's so easy for us to talk about someone or stray off. But i feel if we keep this verse in mind then it would be easier for us to stay on track. The verse also says the consequence at the end. If we keep on living a wrong life then we won't be able to see the Lord.

Verse 28: "Since we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be destroyed, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe." This verse reminds us to stay onn track what God promises us is more than worth anything else in this world.

titus 3 paragraph

titus 3 1 paragraph summary.

Rebecca- Vs.2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, [but] gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. This stood out to me because I need to work on this. It just reminded me to work on it and to try and remember to be kind to everyone no matter what.

Kayla- 3:9 "But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain." This is manily saying that we should obey the laws and our authority.

This verse is important because we need to obey God's laws with our whole hearts to get to heaven, not just to get things on earth.

Luke Book Assignment

Read pp. 333-335 and answer the following questions:

Who is Theophilus or who might he have been? He might have been a Roman Official in charge of Paul's trial in Rome, and that Luke wrote these letters in Paul's defense, or perhaps he was a Christian who hired Luke to research the birth of Christianity and to get it in writing before all the eyewitnesses had died.

How much of the NT was written b/c of him? Nearly a third.

Who is the author of Luke? Luke.

Without Luke’s letter to Theophilus, what would we be missing? (list it out) Also, what “word” would we be missing? The story of baby Jesus; parable of the good Samaritan; the widow who donated her last mite; and the parable of the prodigal son; and the word Savior.

What does Luke 2:10-11 say? " I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior-yes the Messiah, the Lord- has been born today in Bethlehem"

What’s the “Main Point” of Luke? Jesus has come to save everyone, not just the Jews.

When was Luke written? In the AD 50s or 60s.

Read pp.335-336 “BOY Prodigy” and answer the following questions:

What is a “bar-mitzvah”? A Jewish boy's coming of age ritual.

Why did Jesus and his family go to Jerusalem? For the springtime Passover festival.

Where did Mary & Joseph find Jesus? What was he doing? In one of the Temple's courtyards. Wowing the Jewish leaders about His insights about the Jewish religion.

How did Jesus answer? "Didn't you know that i must be in my Father's house?"

Jesus already “seems to understand” what? That He has a unique relationship to His spiritual Father-and a mission to fulfill.

Read pp. 340-341 “The Good Samaritan” and answer the following questions:

What does Luke 10:25 say?" Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?"

How does Jesus answer? "Love God with all your heart and Love your neighbor as yourself."

Conventional Jewish wisdom says neighbors include who? Other Jews-not sinners and foreigners.

Sum up Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan.Robbers mug a man traveling on a desolate road. A Jewish priest walks by him and doesn't help him. Then the priest's assistant and he didn't help him either. Then a Samaritan(non-Jew)walks by and helps him.

Who ended up treating the man’s wounds? A Samaritan(non-Jew)

Why do Jews despise Samaritans? They consider them racial and spiritual half-breeds.

Who was a neighbor to the man? The Samaritan.

What does Luke 10:36-37 say? " 'Which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?' Jesus asks the scholar.
'The one who showed him mercy.'
'Yes, now go and do the same,' Jesus replies"

Read pp.344-345 “A Doctor’s Guide to Jesus’ Crucifixion” and answer the following questions:

Describe the beating of Jesus. The victim is tied to a poll and is whipped with a leather whip that has metal and bone laced into it. They aren't limited to 40 strokes.

Describe the “dead man walking” phase. The victim carries crossbeam to execution site. The crossbeam is attached to a vertical pole. Seat prolongs the torture, making it easier to breathe.

Describe the “nailed” phase.
Iron nails pin wrists and feet to cross. Nails miss main arteries and bones. Wine laced with painkilling myrrh or frankincense is offered. Jesus refuses.

Describe the “breath of life” phase.
Position and weight of body forces victim to push up to exhale.
Breaking legs speeds death. It forces arms to do all the work, pulling victim up to exhale.
Jesus dies before breaking the legs becomes necessary.

Describe the “speared” phase.
Soldier confirms death by stabbing the heart.
By this time, shock has started separating blood into two basic elements: cell clusters and amber-colored serum.
"Water" pours out of Jesus' chest - serum from inside and around heart.
Possible cause of deaths; ac combination of chock, exhaustion, asphyxiation, and heart failure.

Kayla: What really stuck out to me was how smart they were. They knew the exact spots to pierce to bring death. I didn't know that they offered wine as a pain killer, and Jesus refused. I thought this was a good act.

Rebecca: What stuck out to me was how painful everything was. Jesus went through so much for us. He was beaten with a leather whip that had metal and bone in it and he was most likely beaten more than the limit for the Jews which is forty times. The nails seemed especially painful to me. I can't even imagine going through all that.
