Who is the author of Luke? Luke.

Without Luke’s letter to Theophilus, what would we be missing? (list it out) Also, what “word” would we be missing? The story of baby Jesus; parable of the good Samaritan; the widow who donated her last mite; and the parable of the prodigal son; and the word Savior.

What does Luke 2:10-11 say? " I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior-yes the Messiah, the Lord- has been born today in Bethlehem"

Why did Jesus and his family go to Jerusalem? For the springtime Passover festival.

Where did Mary & Joseph find Jesus? What was he doing? In one of the Temple's courtyards. Wowing the Jewish leaders about His insights about the Jewish religion.

How did Jesus answer? "Didn't you know that i must be in my Father's house?"

Read pp. 340-341 “The Good Samaritan” and answer the following questions:

What does Luke 10:25 say?" Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?"

How does Jesus answer? "Love God with all your heart and Love your neighbor as yourself."

Conventional Jewish wisdom says neighbors include who? Other Jews-not sinners and foreigners.

Sum up Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan.Robbers mug a man traveling on a desolate road. A Jewish priest walks by him and doesn't help him. Then the priest's assistant and he didn't help him either. Then a Samaritan(non-Jew)walks by and helps him.

Who ended up treating the man’s wounds? A Samaritan(non-Jew)

Why do Jews despise Samaritans? They consider them racial and spiritual half-breeds.

Who was a neighbor to the man? The Samaritan.

What does Luke 10:36-37 say? " 'Which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?' Jesus asks the scholar.

Read pp.344-345 “A Doctor’s Guide to Jesus’ Crucifixion” and answer the following questions:

Describe the beating of Jesus. The victim is tied to a poll and is whipped with a leather whip that has metal and bone laced into it. They aren't limited to 40 strokes.

Describe the “dead man walking” phase. The victim carries crossbeam to execution site. The crossbeam is attached to a vertical pole. Seat prolongs the torture, making it easier to breathe.

Describe the “nailed” phase.
Iron nails pin wrists and feet to cross. Nails miss main arteries and bones. Wine laced with painkilling myrrh or frankincense is offered. Jesus refuses.

Describe the “breath of life” phase.
Position and weight of body forces victim to push up to exhale.
Breaking legs speeds death. It forces arms to do all the work, pulling victim up to exhale.
Jesus dies before breaking the legs becomes necessary.

Describe the “speared” phase.
Soldier confirms death by stabbing the heart.
By this time, shock has started separating blood into two basic elements: cell clusters and amber-colored serum.
"Water" pours out of Jesus' chest - serum from inside and around heart.
Possible cause of deaths; ac combination of chock, exhaustion, asphyxiation, and heart failure.

Kayla: What really stuck out to me was how smart they were. They knew the exact spots to pierce to bring death. I didn't know that they offered wine as a pain killer, and Jesus refused. I thought this was a good act.

Rebecca: What stuck out to me was how painful everything was. Jesus went through so much for us. He was beaten with a leather whip that had metal and bone in it and he was most likely beaten more than the limit for the Jews which is forty times. The nails seemed especially painful to me. I can't even imagine going through all that.
